Regional health insurer Asia Expats has recently conducted a survey among their expat client base regarding their future plans for living in Asia and specifically if they had any plans for retirement and investment in Thailand.
Thailand for a long-time has been a popular retirement destination for expats living and working in the region, especially among high income expats living and working in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and China.
Part of the survey conducted asked expats what concerns or what driving factors they had in relation to their plans of retiring and living in Thailand after retirement. A common driving factor was that of the affordable cost of healthcare and health insurance for expats living in Thailand in comparison to the costs they would incur in their home counties.
This insight further cements the need for Thailand to continue to develop itself as a leading destination for affordable high-quality healthcare to attract expat investors and high-income retirees.
Thailand attracts more than 2 million medical tourists each year and this number continues to group as more people become more aware and comfortable with the quality of care available in Thailand.
